Tomorrow is “Cinco de Mayo” – how are you going to celebrate? We’re having tacos!
Those are tomorrow’s plans. Today’s plans are on Proverbs 4.
Let your eyes look directly forward,
and your gaze be straight before you.
Ponder the path of your feet;
then all your ways will be sure.
Do not swerve to the right or to the left;
turn your foot away from evil. (Proverbs 4:25-27)
Ever get easily distracted? At times, I do. Jeff and I can have a complete conversation about 10 different topics and he never needs to say a word. It goes something like this:
Me: “I checked on life insurance rates today.”
Me: “Speaking of insurance…Hey, did we find the title to your car?”
Me: “Speaking of cars…Did we ever pick a place to go on vacation this fall?”
Me: “Speaking of fun things…Tiffany said Cooper had a first good t-ball game. He hit the ball on the first pitch. That’s really good for a 4-year-old.”
Me: “Speaking of teams…I’ve got iteration planning at work tomorrow. I’m bringing s’more brownies. Want some for your team too?”
Me: “Speaking of food….I found a good recipe for quiche today. Thinking about trying it. Thoughts?”
Me: “Speaking of good things…Pretty soon it’ll be time for me to plant flowers in that lonely little flower bed. I’m excited for that.”
He never even had to say anything! How lucky is he??! Okay, not all that lucky. And while I could write a post on how to be a polite conversationalist, this isn’t that post. This post is about not being distracted. Having a focus. Proverbs 4 talks about having a focus on gaining wisdom and not looking elsewhere for something else. It tell us to ponder. Which means to think about the direction we’re going. Not letting life just happen. To look to the future – head on, not looking back or to the left or the right.
How often do I look to the left or the right? How often do I look and see what Sally Sue is doing? Or what Bobby has going on? Or try to redirect the path I’m on just because someone else is doing something different? When I set a goal and a direction and purpose and I know it’s the path of wisdom, that’s what I need to focus on. The path of wisdom that God has me on, not the path of folly or even the path of someone else’s feet, no matter how good their path looks. My path.
I used Joy the Baker’s recipe, which is found here. Since then I’ve found Rachael Ray’s S’more Brownies recipe, which looks lots easier!
