Archive for the ‘Samuel’ Category

Now that I’m a stay-at-home mom, I attend a women’s Bible Study on Tuesday mornings.  They have childcare, so the boys go with me.  In typical ‘Jayme is out in public with 4 boys’ fashion, I always use my double stroller for the 2 youngest and Finn and Stephen are learning to walk by the side of the stroller.

I had just picked up 3 of the boys, heading to the 4th boy’s classroom when I passed 3 other women in the hall.  After I passed them, I heard one of the gals say “That woman [me] that we just passed has 4 boys really close together and they’re all CLONES of each other!”.  I chuckled because it’s kind of true.

Now I’ve never been very good at the “he’s got your eyes!” game that people play with babies, but I have thought that Finn and Stephen looked alike as babies.  But then Sam looked different when he was born, so I thought we broke the clone machine.

Then Benjamin was born and looked like Sam.  But as each week goes by, I really think they’re all starting to look alike.  They’re personalities are different, but I think we definitely have a specific look going for us.

Here are pictures of them all at 13 weeks old:

Last year, I wrote that Samuel might have craniosyntosis and need the same surgery that Finn had.  Well, the decision is still to be determined.  We did a CT scan last fall and the results were inconclusive.  His skull wasn’t fused, but his skull bones are more “narrow” than they should be.

So in April, we had an appointment with the cranio-facial surgeons and the results were: still inconclusive.  It isn’t a “slam dunk YES” nor a “slam dunk NO”.  Check back this summer.

Last week, we met again with the team and again the answer is inconclusive.  So rather than solely waiting, we’re getting another CT Scan this week to see what the bones look like on the inside.  Whatever the result is, I just want an answer.  A straight up Yes or a straight up No.  And if surgery is ever going to be needed, then I’d like it sooner rather than later.  Surgery on a 1 year old is easier than surgery on a 5 year old.

Here we (maybe!) go again!

A recent picture of him – the best one that I have that shows what his head shape is now:

Our little Sammy is starting to exhibit his personality more and more. Having 2 older siblings, I can’t help compare his personality & actions to his brothers. He seems more like Finn than Stephen – in terms of stubbornness and seeking out the company of others. Stephen prefers to be by himself quite a bit more where Finn always wants to be right there with you. Right now, Sammy is fascinated with his brothers and is always watching. He’ll just follow us room to room.

But…he’s also my first thumb sucker. That’s been unique to him.  He’s only been doing it for a couple of months, but he’s my first to do so. It only happens when he’s sleepy. If one of us is holding him (like upright on our hip), then he’ll suck his thumb. If he’s laying down in his crib, then he tends to suck on a couple of his finger.

I particularly like feeding him his last bottle of the day, right before bed. As I’m holding him in the recliner in his room, he’ll hold his own bottle, drink as much as he wants, then he’ll drop it. He’ll roll over onto his stomach to curl up on my chest. He’ll put 2 fingers in his mouth and start sucking. If I don’t start patting his back, he’ll reach back around and pat it himself as if reminding me of my job. It’s just adorable. It’s a good moment in a good phase of life.

Samuel: 1 year old!

Our little Baby Sammy isn’t such a baby anymore — he’s a 1 year old!  Okay, it was a week and a half ago, but I wanted to wait til I had the stats from his pediatrician appointment.  He’s definitely a long and lean guy, which explains the trouble that I have in getting pants to either stay on his wait or be long enough.  Bring on the shorts weather!

Man, could my boys be triplets or what!?

(By the way, you can definitely tell which 2 were born in the same season based upon their clothing – Finn and Samuel were both born in April, so their clothing seasons are the same, while Stephen was born in October, making him in the complete opposite season!)

Here are pictures of them taken when they were 38, 39, 40, 41, and 42 weeks old.

Samuel: 10 months old!

Sammy is 10 months old!  We often call him ‘Sam I Am’, but I find myself calling him ‘Sam’ more often than ‘Sammy’ these days. Not sure why – maybe as he grows up, his name will grow up too?!

Here’s his 10-month scrapbook page:
