Our 20-week anatomy scan went well on Tuesday. Everything looked like it should – the heart was beating, his head was the right size, he was moving like crazy. He measured right on schedule – 20 weeks, 2 days.
I do think it’s ‘funny’ how they estimate a baby’s weight. They take his thigh measurement and use some calculation to come up with an estimated weight. For him, it was 13 ounces, which is the 33rd percentile. Since one of my goals (if at all possible) is to have a bigger baby this go around, that was interesting. I know it’s just an estimate. I know that there is still a long way to go in this pregnancy. If he stays steady with the 33rd percentile, that would put him at just over 7 pounds. That would meet my goal since Phinehas was born at under 6 pounds!
Learned that the placenta is in the back of the uterus (typical). Last time, the placenta was in the front, making it harder for me to feel movement. I definitely feel movement often, so that probably explains why.
And just like last time, it is amazing to see another living being inside of you. Just strange and wonderful all at the same time.
- His heartbeat was upper 130s, lower 140s
- My weight gain: 5 pounds (literally seemed to come on all in one weekend – eeks!)
- His name will be Stephen David, after 2 of his grandfather’s.
