My 12 week check up happened today. First, my doc apologized for the long wait on Monday. They’ve just gone to a paperless system and were really working out some kinks. Tis okay. I’ve been seeing her for at least 12 years and that’s the first time anything like that has ever happened. Being in the IT world, I ‘get’ it.
Super short appointment as I didn’t have many questions. I did ask her how I can increase my chances of giving birth to a bigger baby (how many women ask that!?) Phinehas wasn’t unhealthy or wayy too small, but he was less than 6 pounds. Sure he was 10 days early, but ultrasounds at the end of my last pregnancy showed that he kind of stopped growing.
Her answer: There may not be anything I can do – we just don’t know. But getting in good quality nutrition is key. I’ve had some previous surgeries that are probably impacting a baby’s ability to get full nutrition, so it’s critical, for me, to absolutely bombard the baby with all kinds of good stuff. The more I get in, the more he’s (or she’s) likely to absorb. At the end of the day, it might not make any difference. But I want to do what I can in case it does. No regrets and all that!
Heartbeat: Baby’s heartbeat was in the 150s and easily found! Phinehas’s heartbeat was in the 150s also when I was 12 weeks along with him, so that’s consistent for me.
My weight gain: 0. I actually was up about 4 pounds (Easter weekend strikes again!), but since I’ve been eating healthier starting this week, I’ve lost 4 pounds. I’m okay with it because my calories this week came from lots of veggies! And fruits. And hard boiled eggs! Okay, maybe a rogue Jelly Bean or two…
Got my 16 week appointment scheduled. Got my 20-week anatomy scan and appointment scheduled. Everything looks good!
