It can feel that way at times. That you’re the only one who is single. I’ve been there. Before I got married – my mom had been dating a gent for 20+ years. My sister (2 years younger) was married for 5 years. My brother (6 years younger) had been dating a gal (now married) for 4+ years. Then there was me. 28 and single. And not just “between boyfriends right now”, but single as they come.
But the new census numbers are out. Singles now outnumber marrieds in ages 25-34 nationally.
Among adults 25-34, roughly 46.3 percent had never wed — the first time the share of unmarried young adults exceeded the share who were married, at 44.9 percent.
Now, I don’t necessarily think this is a good thing. I think this is a symptom of the fact that we’re taking longer to grow up, that adults are more likely to live together forever than to get married, that we see marriage as a responsibility and a chore than a good thing. BUT…for those singles, remember this: you’re the norm! Even when it doesn’t feel like it!
