I’m learning that I need a “transition time” before I go to bed at night. If I try to go to bed right after playing around on the internet (blogging, facebooking, reading blogs) or planning grocery shopping trips or taking care of house things, then I don’t fall to sleep too well.
But if I spend 20 minutes or so reading? Then I’m ready to go to bed when the lights go out. Reading has a way (I’m discovering) of helping my mind shut down. Otherwise, I get into bed and something like this starts happening.
What day is it? Is tomorrow Trash Day? Did I take out the trash? What’s on the menu for tomorrow? Oh yeah. Pork chops. Got those out of the freezer dethawing, so I’m good. When do we get paid again? That reminds me that we should be getting a bill soon for property taxes. I need to make sure to remember to transfer money from savings for that. You know, we never did get a bill for that work that they did on the garage. Sure am glad that got fixed now that it’s winter time. Was that Phinehas stirring? Sure was, but sounds like he settled back down to sleep. That’s nice. I wonder what’s going to happen next in that book I’m reading? I think the butler did it. Man, Jeff’s really sleeping hard. I wish I was sleeping right now. What else do I need to buy for Christmas presents? Sigh…
So I try to get in some reading time in before I go to bed. And I’ve started to keep a little post it note pad next to my bed for those late night thoughts. I can just write a quick note to myself, so that I don’t have to remind myself what I’ve already forgotten about!
