For our first Christmas as a married couple, I put together a countdown to Christmas of sorts. I did the same last year. And I’ve done it again this year. This year though, I didn’t do the 25 days of Christmas – instead I’ve shortened it to the 24 Days of Christmas. Why? Then I only needed to use 4 pieces of scrapbook paper!
They are just a simple piece of scrapbook paper with the Day number on (like Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, etc.). On the back is something simple – either something to do together (watch a Christmas movie, read a book together), something to talk about or a compliment for Jeff. I simply hung 2 pieces of ribbon on Command hooks and attached 12 days to each with a clothes pin. I’m even re-using the clothes pins, command hooks and ribbon from the last 2 years, making the total cost of this project less than $1 (just the scrapbook paper).
I didn’t do a very good job last year, so I almost didn’t do it this year, but Jeff asked me to. I don’t know what really happened last year, but many of the things that I had us doing…well, we didn’t really do them. I think I forgot to account for the busyness of the season! Hopefully, this year will go better!
This year, my intended audience is still pretty much just Jeff, but as Phinehas gets older, there will be things for him. Because it’s meant just for 2 adults, it’s harder to come with activities. We aren’t the “go out and make a snow angel” kind of people. But we’ll try some new things!
If you are interested in some good ideas to put on such a countdown calendar, here are some gals that have great ideas. Maybe some of them will resonate with you!
